A Journey Thirty Years in the Making
Every students journey is unique, but some stories are powerful reminders that determination and courage can pave the way for remarkable success. 雅伎著 is proud to celebrate Ben Jeffries, the recipient of the 2025 Academic Excellence Award, an honor presented by the North Carolina Community College System Foundation.
From Family First to Future Focused
Bens path to higher education didnt follow a traditional timeline. After graduating from high school, lifes priorities quickly shifted. Raising a family and making ends meet became the focus. However, as the years passed, the limitations of not having a degree became more apparent.
Not having a college education has caused me to miss several job opportunities, Ben reflects. Encouraged by his family and fueled by a renewed sense of purpose, he made the bold decision to enroll at CCC, 30 years after graduating from high school.
Rising to the Challenge
Starting college after many years away from the classroomand while working full-timewas not easy. But Ben embraced the challenge. With dedication and resilience, he adapted and thrived, earning a 4.0 GPA, the benchmark for Academic Excellence Award consideration.

The North Carolina Community College System and the North Carolina Community Colleges Foundation present this prestigious award annually to one standout student at each of the state’s 58 community colleges. It is the highest academic honor the System bestows on its students.
Looking Ahead with Purpose
